WEWednesdays! Women Empowering Women is elated to showcase this truly ingenuitive female entrepreneur, Dorothy Mazeau as our Mystery Speaker for our Mississauga Chapter this month.
Dorothy Mazeau is a longtime expert on what she calls “Golden Girls Living.” She’s excited to announce the launch of GOLDEN GIRLS CANADA, a new website that will connect older women wishing to share their homes with other women looking for housing for mutual benefit. Mazeau says “Golden Girls Living” can address real problems facing older people in housing – and she shares solutions about modern day “Golden Girls” – older people finding happiness and friendship through shared housing.
Professionally, Dorothy Mazeau is a realtor, with a long career as an architect before that. She’s spent a lifetime thinking about where people live, and how they live there. These days, though, she is most often described as a Seniors Advocate – and not just because she worked to get advanced certification as a Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES).
As a result of both her personal and professional history, Dorothy understands the sensitive needs of the fast growing demographic of aging people who want to continue to enjoy quality of life in their own homes without feeling as though they will become a burden to their family or friends. She’s seen the barriers that can stand in their way and believes that GOLDEN GIRLS CANADA is the answer.
She has advocated for shared housing for a long time – and for her, it’s not just a business pitch…She has lived it. In fact, Mazeau has shared a home with friends for over two decades. She says she wouldn’t have it any other way, and now she is passionate about sharing the benefits. She was recently featured on the syndicated What She Said Radio show discussing this exciting concept, and participated in the March 8 International Women’s Day event at the Best Western Hotel in Orangeville.
Mazeau said she is thrilled to be participating in A Celebration of Women’s World Peace Day event on September 16th and is very much looking forward to it. “I am very excited! Whenever I talk about the Golden Girls concept I get an amazing response,” she says. “It always sparks a conversation and I hear stories of older women, in particular, living on their own or with their kids, who are so ready for something like this!”
