When I used to think of the word “entrepreneur”, I was convinced that word would never apply to me. After graduating university with a BA in Psychology (Mount Allison University…go Mounties go!), I knew I wanted to work in an industry where I could help people. As we naturally do, I searched for a career (aka “job”) that I felt could offer me exactly that. Further training in healthcare led to some incredible positions including one where I was the Program Director for a Training School, my dream job or so I felt. Healthcare is a difficult industry and with the many cuts over the year, my school fell victim to these cutbacks. My dream job was no longer. I needed something else, but had no idea where to turn.
As a busy mom of two young girls, who are competitive dancers, and working full-time in healthcare, I could not even imagine adding another thing to my already full schedule. Advancement in my current role was no longer an option unless I was willing to go back to school; something that was not a possibility. With the lack of time, I certainly was not willing to invest thousands of dollars without a guarantee, let alone a possibility for advancement. We certainly know, as women, how busy our days can be!
Then I was introduced to Arbonne. Initially as a client, I enjoyed purchasing products that I knew I could use on my growing children and feel safe with Arbonne’s premium ingredients. With a commitment to never testing on animals, Arbonne’s motto is “pure, safe and beneficial” and this tied in with exactly what I wanted. I was looking for products that were safe (did not use harmful or even worse, dangerous ingredients), beneficial (effective products that create incredible results) and with a green commitment throughout the company that is certainly admirable. Loving the products, I was happy being only a client. That was the role where I was comfortable.
I love my job in healthcare but was tired…..tired of the long hours, commuting three hours a day and limited vacation. So when I was shown the business model, initially I was skeptical. I thought this business was perfect for those individuals with sales experience, of which I had none. Listening to the business presentation I realized that if I did not change something, nothing in my life would change. This was the opportunity I was searching for.
Arbonne’s business model is incredibly fair, equitable and attractive. The thought of being able to advance based on my work ethic, was extremely appealing. Social marketing is a business model that is oft misunderstood, however, once I did my research, I understood that with a generous compensation plan like Arbonne’s, and a healthy environment of supportive individuals, I could become a success. The best part of this plan is that success comes from mentoring others and help them build their own business; it was no longer strictly about sales. I never thought I would become involved with a Network Marketing Company. With a career spent in healthcare and most of my connections remain where I grew up on the East Coast, I did not believe I had the connections to build a solid business here in Ontario. However, once I educated myself on the benefits and possibilities associated with social marketing, I realized that this opportunity was exactly what I had been searching for.
My journey in this business has just begun, but the opportunities afforded to date have been incredible. I have the ability to share ultra-premium products with amazing clients that I have the opportunity to meet on a daily basis. I also have the opportunity to share the business with the others and help them grow into successful entrepreneurs themselves.
Teaching is my passion and my Arbonne business allows me to do this once again.

With the use of technology, we are able to build an international business right from our kitchen tables! As my daughter said to me, “you are small town girl trying to build a global business”!
